Most popular quantity. Clomiphene Information
Clomiphene is an ovulatory stimulant that helps produce more hormones that cause your ovaries to release eggs. It is used to treat female infertility.
Don’t use clomiphene if you are pregnant, have ovarian cysts or enlargement not due to polycystic ovarian syndrome, abnormal vaginal bleeding, allergic to any ingredient in the medication, liver problems, a brain lesion such as a pituitary gland tumor, uncontrolled adrenal gland or thyroid problems or if you have ever had a blood clot or blockage of blood vessels in the lungs, legs or other area.
Certain medical conditions may interact with clomiphene. Therefore, you should consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding, have allergies to certain foods, substances or medicines, are suffering from uterine fibroids, endometriosis, depression or polycystic ovarian syndrome or if you are taking any other herbal preparations, dietary supplements or prescription/nonprescription medicines. Although medications may interact with the drug, no specific interactions with clomiphene have been identified. Be sure to contact your doctor if you change the dose, stop or start any type of medicine when taking Clomiphene.
Be sure to take Clomiphene exactly as prescribed and according to the label on the medication. You can take the drug with or without food, but properly timed sexual intercourse will improve results. Ovulation will normally occur 5-10 days after taking a dose of clomiphene. If you have not become pregnant after taking 3 courses of treatment, further or long-term treatment is not advisable. Consult your doctor if you happen to miss a dose of clomiphene.
Clomiphene may cause vision disturbances such as flashes, spots or blurring, lightheadedness or dizziness. Therefore, you should not drive or operate any machinery without knowing how you will react. When taking the drug alone or in combination with alcohol or other medications, you may not be able to drive or perform any dangerous tasks. Your ovaries may enlarge shortly after or while taking clomiphene.
Talk to your doctor if you experience pelvic or stomach pain, stomach discomfort or enlargement, pain or weight gain while taking the medication. Your doctor will also require you to undergo pregnancy and other lab tests while taking clomiphene. If you are elderly, exercise caution when taking the drug because it may increase sensitivity to its effects. Children should not take clomiphene.
You may become pregnant with more than 1 fetus such as twins if you are taking clomiphene. Therefore, discuss the possible hazards and complications of a multiple pregnancy with your doctor. You should not take clomiphene if you are breast feeding or pregnant.
Although any medication may cause side effects, many people experience minor or no side effects. Consult with your doctor if any of the following common side effects become bothersome or persistent:
- Vomiting
- Hot flashes
- Enlargement of the ovaries
- Headaches
- Stomach pain
- Flushing
- Bloating
- Pelvic pain
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Enlarged breasts or breast tenderness
- Blurred vision or vision problems such as flashes or spots
- Mood changes
If you experience serious side effects such as a spontaneous abortion, allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, rash, swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue or face or tightness in the chest, or over stimulation of the ovaries, seek immediate medical attention.
